Archaeological Evidence for Genesis

An objection claimed by many atheists and agnostics is that the Bible is a book filled with fairy tales and stories. We know, as believers, that this is definitely not true. By reading plainly, a person can realize that the Bible is actually a historical Book with many details about historical events and people. To prove this more, we will take a quick archaeological tour of the Middle East.
Babylon is a place regularly mentioned in the Bible (more than 250 times to be precise) and is a known archaeological city in Iraq. In Babylon, many interesting relics have been found showing the reliability of the Genesis record of creation. One such relic is the Enuma Elish (the Babylonian Creation Record), telling how the Babylonian gods created the universe.  The Epic of Gilgamesh includes the Babylonian flood story, in which Gilgamesh gathers two of each kind of animal and gather them aboard a boat before a universal flood destroyed the world.
Moving quickly onto major evidences regarding Genesis 11-36, we are still in Iraq. Abraham’s home city of Ur was excavated by Sir Leonard Woolley. Also, the Hittite nation was not recognized anywhere besides the Bible but archaeologists found evidence of the nation in the 1800’s.
The Bible is the only known Holy Book to mention places and people yet to be discovered by archaeologists. Many people detest against the Bible using this fact, but the Bible always stands. New archaeological finds support the Bible and holds to its accountability. The Bible, irregardless to what skeptic’s claim, is not a book of fables but a historical book.
