Apologetics in Action: Is Jesus God?

Refusal: Jesus is not Deity but an incredible and moral man.

Argument: Is Jesus God?

Since we can both meet at the conclusion that Jesus was indeed a real man. Archaeological evidence of the existence of the man Jesus is undeniable; but you claim that He is just a man, not God. We read in the Bible, however, that Jesus claims to be God and He possesses many of the same attributes of God. Let’s take a deeper look:
We see that Jesus possesses many divine names- names that the Bible only uses to describe God. Jesus went by the terms “Yahweh” (John 8:58- “I say unto you, before Abraham was, I AM”), Kurios (New Testament Greek equivalent of the Old testament Yahweh- Romans 10:9), Theos (New Testament Greek for God- John 20:28), and Elohim (Isaiah’s prophesy in Isaiah 9:6). Jesus did not deny being called these names and even, in some cases, described Himself with these names.
We also see in the Bible that Jesus is self-existent (John 1:3), everywhere present (Matthew 18:20), all-knowing (Luke 5:4), all powerful (John 1:3), sovereign (Revelation 19:16), and sinless (Hebrews 1:9). All these attributes can only belong to God. Because Jesus also had these attributes, we can logically assert that Jesus is indeed God.
Whenever Jesus spoke in the Scriptures, He spoke with authority (“Verily, verily I say unto you”). He also said that His very words will not pass away over time: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Mark 13:32). We know from Scriptures that everything man has created will pass away from time, and we can draw a conclusion that, once again, Jesus is not a man but God.
The works of Jesus Christ (His miracles) also show to us that He is God. Jesus’ miracles recorded in the New Testament were often called “signs”- and “signs” always signify a meaning. In this exact case, the signs signify that Jesus is the Messiah and God.
Jesus is also worshiped as God on many different occasions in the Bible. He accepted worship from Thomas (John 20:28), the angels (Hebrews 1:6), some wise men (Matthew 2:11), a leper (Matthew 8:2), a ruler (Matthew 9:18),  a blind man (John 9:38), an anonymous woman (Matthew 15:25), May Magdalene (Matthew 28:9), and the disciples (Matthew 28:17). The Bible is very adamant that only God can be worshipped (Exodus 24:14, Deuteronomy 6:13, Matthew 4:10). We can logically deduce that since God is only to be worshipped, that Jesus is indeed God.

You may try to attest to the many different arguments that cultists claim is evidence that Jesus is not God. The cults claim that, since Jesus is the “Son of God”, He cannot possibly be God. By doing a more in-depth study of the word usage of “Son of God”, we can see that an important meaning of the term: “one who has the same nature as”. When Jesus is referred to as the Son of God, the Bible is stating that He has the same nature as God. In other words, He is God.
There is no objection: Jesus Christ is God! If you truly believe that the Bible is God’s infallible Word, you must then believe that Jesus is God. If you deny that Jesus is God, you are throwing away the very foundation of Scriptures and corrupting the perfect Word of God. We read in the Scriptures that Jesus has the names of God, the attributes of God, spoke with authority as God did, had many “signs” that He was God, and that He was worshipped as God by many different individuals. By refuting that Jesus is God, you are refuting with the very foundations and the Word of God. Jesus is truly God.
